Love this one !!!!
August 14
Estoy encontrando que la cerveza ayuda en el proceso de recuperación después de un día largo en la bicicleta !!!!!
Had a good sleep last night , air conditioned room on a hot evening was much appreciated !!
Awoke this morning to rain , nice to be indoors but not so good for sightseeing , so we headed to the campus cafeteria for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised by large quantities of food !!!
Around 11.30 Bob and his wife came by and collected us ( they also brought us a chocolate cake and blueberries !!!!) , it was still raining heavily so they took us for a tour around the city in there van and I must say it is beautiful city , lots of treed areas , the Rideau Canal with it’s magnificent locks, the lakes, flowers everywhere and of course the historical buildings and we were looking at all of this in the rain , a visit during a sunny weekend is a must.
We then went to the Canadian War Museum a very interesting building in itself modern and the theme is regeneration , as the architect puts it : “ While nature may be ravaged by human acts of war, it inevitably survives, regenerates and renews itself. - “ (Raymond Moriyama, architectethat ) and the exhibits make you think of the sheer horrors of war, it is good to remember and one should never ever forget the ones that give there lives for us to live the way we do, but we should also strive to create a world were young people do not get asked to make those sacrifices , were lives can be lived without fear, we have brains that achieve amazing feats in science, medicine, technology , arts , etc, yet we can’t achieve peace , a very sad accomplishment for the human race after thousands of years of existence.
I highly recommend a visit to the museum if you are ever in the city.
After the museum we went for dinner to a very nice Greek restaurant that our gracious hosts knew of and had a wonderful dinner. They deposited us back here at the university were we now find ourselves organizing and packing for tomorrow.
My very messy room
These are some of the plaster models used to carve to the statues on the War Memorial at Vimy Ridge in France, there are 17 of the 20 models on display here in the Regeneration Hall.
