Camp early in the morning on the shore of lake Huron
August 5
( three post published today: day 38 - 39 and 40 )
Once again a bit of rain last night , nothing serious just enough to chase us into our tents . I tried updating the blog but was just to tiered and it had got dark and I still needed to have a shower so I passed on that . ( updating everything today )
This morning I was up early again , 5.15 is when the first alarm clock goes off in camp and if I hear it I get up also , it’s just barely twilight at that hour now as opposed to in BC were the sun was up at that time. Got my cold breakfast and eat it on the beach , camp today was a tranquil place as we just had a short 109 km ride , so people were in no hurry to get going, and I include myself in that !!
Today was basically a straight run to Spanish with the winds at our backs so we just were flying down the highway , traffic at first was not bad but by noon it got a bit heavier , good shoulders to ride on made it a safe ride.
Because there was no rush we stopped for breakfast Iron Bridge at a very nice restaurant , a few km down the road we stopped again in Blind River for ice cream which we then was followed by a Tim Horton’s coffee !!!
The scenery was very pleasant as we followed the north channel of lake Huron between Manitoulan island and the mainland , lots of picture oportunities. We also detoured a couple of times for short runs off the Hwy and on one off those we went into Algoma Mills , had some fun at the railroad display they had and afterward saw a fully grown bear cross the road in front of us , we stopped to take his picture but just before we could he decided to run off.
From there to camp we rushed as fast as we could as big bad rain clouds appeared behind us , we managed to out run the rain and set up our tents , by then the rain bypassed and we were just left with a strong wind that is battering the tents very hard , I put extra ties on mine. As I had hopped we got in early 3 PM , showered , did laundry , and now catching up with the blog before dinner for a change.
Total ridden today:111.9 - Average speed: 25.8 - Ridding time: 4.20.
Camp in the morning
The usual line of bikes forms as we hit a town
Murray and I enjoying an ice cream
Hard to believe we are actually grown ups !!!
Just a few moments earlier a big black bear walked onto the road in front of us , he stopped and took a good look at us and before we could snap his picture he ran off.
