Day 38 - We conquered the Montreal River hill !!!

Old Woman's Bay
August 3
It’s 9.10 PM , as I am sitting here in my tent and  it just started to rain , I only made it back in time , half an hour ago a bunch of us were on the beach relaxing after dinner , some swimming other chatting. The beach is heavenly, called Pancake Bay , when I got in earlier in the day I headed down after pitching my tent and went for a swim, beautiful sandy beach and crystal clear water !!! This is definitely another place I will come back to with Evelyn some day and spend some time.
Leaving our nice hotel room was hard , but it was nice to be on the road again ,four of us set of today : Janice, Ed, Bob T, and myself, we were lucky that the first 8 km were all down hill but then the climbing started , Ed feel back and bypassed one of our stops so we didn't see him again for the rest of the ride. We were back on the shores of the great Lake Superior ( or Gichigami as the Ojibwe call it meaning “ Big Water" ), and a heavy mist was coming off it so tail lights were on the bikes, the mysterious mist would reach in and caress us and the tree tops and all of a sudden be gone only to reappear as we rounded another corner , it was basically like that for a good part of the morning.  We spent the greatest part of our ride in Lake Superior Provincial Park were we got some spectacular views of the lake at "Old Woman's Bay" and "Katherine Cove" , and missed other view as the lake kept them hidden in the mist. Then we stopped to see the Ojibway pictographs on the rock face at the edge of the lake , and 800 meter hike down the rocky path ( tricky with cycling shoes ), and for the last part we actually had to take our shoes off , but it was worth it !!!, a few of the youngsters jumped in for a swim , Janice almost ended up in also as she slipped and had to be rescued by a pacer by.
There were some good tough climbs today and it was a long ride but we conquered the famous Montreal River Hill , it was obscured with fog so we didn't think it was all that bad , the decent on the other side was fun !!!
All in all a long day but very satisfying .
