August 14
Well with a long day ahead of us we set off early again , the first hour we had the Saint Lawrence to our right and had some good views of the 1000 Islands that dot this area. After that we seemed to follow the Rideau Canal off and on all the way to Ottawa. It was sunny, hot and humid with the temperatures getting into the low 30, there was a good breeze blowing , for the most part pushing us along and relieving some of the heat.
We traveled quickly today as the road were good for the most part and traffic was light ( it got heavier as we got closer to Ottawa ) I was not happy with the water in my bottles today it just didn’t taste right so I wasn’t drinking , we were looking for a store to change it but one wouldn’t appear so at one point I went for a solo sprint in search of water for about 10 km finding the village of Lyn and a old style corner store that sold a little of everything like the ones of my childhood. I stopped and joined others already there and more came along , then a large group of motorcycles ( mostly Harley’s ) appeared, some to fill up on gas at the old gas pump at the corner of the store, and while all that was going on a long line of old restored Studebakers came along and one by one stopped at the stop sign in front of the store and continued on, the whole scene was surreal like out of a Sci-fi movie ( Twilight Zone like )
After that we went along having fun on the road eating up the miles looking for a lunch stop , then a second sprint happened as Serge, Pierre-Allan and Jacques went by us , Janice latched on to them and we followed for a while and then of course we passed which started a chase by them all the way to Merrickville , lots of fun !!!! ( unfortunately Pierre-Allan got a flat just as we got into town ) A good lunch was had and on we went, as the day got hotter. With water again running low and ice-cream on the mind a second search was on for a store ( they were hard to come by today ) and we eventually 30 km from Ottawa found one on the side of the canal. The usual double scoops were purchased , (for me pralines and cream with butterscotch on top !!!), we went outside to sit and enjoy the view of the canal and of course take pictures , but it was so hot that we could not eat the ice cream quick enough , it was melting and dripping all over the place !!!!!
We are staying indoors again tonight at Carleton University, tomorrow being a rest day. There was no electricity available for the truck so we were not able to cook here , instead pizza was bought for all. After pizza of course we still wanted more and felt a beer was in order after the hot day we endured so we headed out on a futile search for the campus pub , then Bob and his wife who were gracious enough to ferry our belonging from the truck to the rooms earlier in the day again offered to drive us to the pub. We ended up at Patty’s Pub and had a few beers and eat a second dinner !!!!! , decadent !!!!! Of course all this meant that we were doing laundry quite late in the evening .
A good day today once again !!

Estimado primo, en Ottawa por la calle del parlamento pero al otro lado del canal, unas 2 cuadras hay un muy buen lugar para tomar cerveza. Saludos y menos chupi que no vas a tener resto para terminar el cruce. Fuerza.
