Day 34 - a great day , but boy did we climb !!!

30 July
This morning started off quite cold , 7 degrees !!!!, had to dig deep into my laundry baskets to find arm warmers and leggings , I put them at the bottom as I really thought I wasn't going to need them again, wrong !!!!
This morning Murray, Janice and myself headed out , unfortunately our friend Bob was not felling well enough to ride and had to make the tough decision to ride in the truck ,( he is now the third in our group to miss a section ) and we missed him. At our first stop Ed caught up to us and the four of us spent the day together.
The scenery was spectacular today, the lake showed itself to us in all it’s splendor , little teases at first but as we went more and more was reviled and many pictures were taken  ( many were not taken as it’s impossible to keep stopping !!! )
Today was a day of climbing , and climbing and even more climbing !!!, we probably climb more today then in any other single day of the trip including our days in the Rockies, not long climbs , perhaps the longest was two kilometers , not horrendous grades , most started at 6% to end at 8% but we did have a long 10% in there close to the end, 5,500 feet of climbing in total !!!! The wind was a mix of head wind and cross wind which didn't help other then to keep us cool and the temperature was mid 20s with beautiful sunshine. The road was good and we had a shoulder to ride on the whole way witch added to the enjoyment.
The highlight of the day was our stop in Rossport, a very nice village at km 74 , we had been told to stop at the local restaurant , well as we rolled in we spotted the place first by the usual array of bikes parked all around the place , this time since the building was up off the road the bike were lined well beyond the limit of the property . The place was packed with riders , we got our table and were informed of the special of the day : fresh lake trout lightly breaded with a caesar salad and rice pilaf , the fish cought in the lake and delivered to the wharf in view of the restaurant !!! . Well it was delicious , Ed even washed it down with a glass of Merlot. But the best was yet to come , we ordered desert , blueberry shortcake, topped with  fresh blueberries and cream , I quite honestly think I have never had a better desert in my life . I don’t know how we managed to get back on our bikes after the feast , but I do know we were extremely lucky that the first climb did not come for several km !!!
Today was the longest time we have been out on the road , from about 7.30 AM to about 6.30 PM, we got in with just enough time to pitch the tent, and dinner was called . Now after dinner , a shower , setting up my stuff and a phone call home, find myself in my tent in the dark writing this !! I did manage a quick little walk on the beach before showering , from were I am sitting I can see it through the trees and all I can hear is the sound of waves coming ashore, it’s a beautiful park ( Nays Provincial Park ) and unfortunately there is no time to enjoy it , one more place I will have to come back and visit on day with the family.
Total ridden today:172.5 -   Average speed : 21.8 -   Ridding time: 7.56

The best desert I have ever had !!!!!
