The warmest winter in 60 odd years they say

The warmest winter in 60 odd years they say, it must be because I managed to put in my 4th ride of the season today. Just amazing weather for the beginning of March +13 and sunny and hardly any wind, paradise for a biker like me!!!

So the first thing that strikes me today where horse hoof prints on the side of the road, first reaction is to think that one of mine got out, ohh horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach!!!, but then I noticed that it had shoes on and I breathed a sigh of relief, it must have been a brave soul to go horse back riding on this road.

Then once on Keele I crest one of the many hills to find a boy coming at me with 4 dogs, he has a hold of the collars of two of them but the other two are all over the road, and poor kid he’s a huffing and a puffing trying to control the situation and obviously get the dogs home. I ride by carefully as a couple of cars cress cross luckily missing the dogs. I look back to see if he made it in the driveway and notice that he is going by it, puzzled I turn around to see if I can help him . From what he tells me he has about ½ a km to go before getting home and he asked me if I could go and get his sister to come with leads to help him. Off I go down a muddy dirt road, find his house and get his mother and sister to drive out to meet him.
Its one of the things I like about “the road”, you meet people and get to experience new situations you get a chance to participate in life .And I must say it felt good to lend a helping hand today!!!.

Now from the good to the bad. I’m heading back home on Jane St. and I’m stopped at the lights on the King Rd. I notice a fellow biker approaching thinking he would stop and chat until the lights changed, but no he just flew right through the intersection even as a car was turning .
Now I object to bad cyclists just as much as I object to bad drivers out there , the thing is that a bad cyclist give us all a bad reputation and in doing so put us more at risk out there as drivers end up having less respect for us.
Life on a bicycle on the road is precarious enough, no need for fellow cyclist to inflate the dislike that motorist have for us. The rules of the road apply equally to cars and cyclist they are there to protect us all and should be obeyed.

Ok, I’m done ranting , I had a good day out there after all !!! , nice to be riding again !!!
